We’re all people. We all have things that we do. Some of us, like me, are very productive and have a lot of time to do things. Some of us have lots of time to do nothing and that makes us forget that we do have other things we do. All of us should be working towards doing more of what we do already. If you want to be better at something, go get that thing already.

It’s hard to say whether open sourcing is the right thing to do, depending on what the people you want to give their code to are. If you’re going to give away your time, I would say make sure you’re giving away a lot of time. That way you can start to make money without having to invest in anything that will take away from the value of your work to others.
