In a surprise move, three of the top eight banks have joined the Linux Association’s Open Banking program. This move follows a series of open letters and other meetings where banks have been asked to join the program to protect their proprietary technology. The Linux Association is a nonprofit organization of more than 2,000 members that represents more than 200 global banks, retailers, credit unions and other financial institutions.
This is a little weird. A friend of mine, a guy I work with, told me that we all know what he’s talking about, but he couldn’t get it out of his head, so I had to ask him to come over to his room and look over his shoulder. I asked him if he would come over and tell me his story, but he didn’t seem very interested.
The Linux Association has joined the EFF in its effort to make sure that the patent system is fair and open so that companies can compete in the IT industry. This is all the more important because of the growing number of Linux applications and the fact that Linux is becoming the de facto operating system for the future. This could be a huge boon for the open source movement.
We have some great news out of a developer who I have spoken to over the weekend. He said he is getting excited about the Linux community and is thinking about some ways to get a Linux project on the big picture. I was happy to see him speak about that. At the time, he didn’t have much of an interest in this.
After the game was released he was able to run many of the Linux apps that were available in early versions of Linux. He did a lot of writing for developers, including this interview from the developer of the classic DOS game, the DOS-DOS game The Windows Project. The first thing he said was, “I want to make my own Linux game.” That was the way I thought about it.
He went on to say, that he was a bit frustrated with the way the open-source movement was trying to influence the business side of these games. Because the open source movement was trying to get developers to create software that didn’t exist. He said that he just thought it was kind of silly. He said that he’d like to get involved in this movement to make sure that those developers are writing the software and working on the games.
Not only is it kind of cool to be involved in a movement that puts open-source code out there, but it is also nice to be able to use open source software to make something that a lot of developers already had written for it.
A lot of developers are involved in the development of video games, so I know that the developers got involved in the development of some of the games that they are most proud of.
The GPLv2 has some good patent protection. Basically, the GPL allows for anyone to patent a work, so long as that work is used within the program that is protected under the GPL. In the case of a game, the game is protected under the GPL because it is a derivative work but the game itself is protected under the GPL because it is a part of a game. So the GPL’s patent protection is good. It only gets better from here.
It’s a fairly common method of defending and defending against patent fraud. It’s also a common method for defending against patent theft. If a game is sued for patent theft, the game is defended by the game’s own patents, which are protected under the GPL. In addition to defending against patent theft, the GPL also allows for a defense by the game’s own patent protection, which is very similar to defending against patent theft. But that’s not the whole story here.
