I recently joined a Linux group that has a very high percentage of patents from companies that have spent time on Linux. The good news for me is that I am not alone! It’s a good thing that I am interested in such a group. The bad news for me is that I’m not a patent attorney. I have no idea how to go about this. I have a question though.
When I joined the group I was asked to join the Linux Patent Association (LPA). I did not know what the group was… or how it worked. Now I do. Linux is a very big industry and the LPA represents the majority of those companies. If you are interested in joining any of our Linux groups, you should definitely check out the LPA website.
If you’re new to Linux, you should check out the LPA website. It’s a pretty safe place to start at least. However, if you’re still having issues with your own Linux software or using your own libraries, I highly recommend you read this article.
Basically, the LPA is a network of software vendors interested in making software that runs on Linux or other Unix-like operating systems. One of the biggest problems these vendors have is with patent law. Linux and Unix software are protected by a patent grant from the U.S. government. This doesn’t mean that these companies have to do anything with their software, but they do have to buy licenses for the patent they have.
The LPA is a way for vendors to get their hands on the patent grant so they can license it to everyone else in the world. At the moment, there are only about a dozen LPA members who are willing to join and give their companies a chance at getting some money. The group will eventually grow to a thousand, then ten thousand, then a million LPA members. Of course, since the LPA is so new, nothing is guaranteed.
The LPA is a little different from other open-source licensing groups, in that it is not a group of volunteers in the tradition of the Apache Software Foundation. LPA members are paid for their participation, but the money is not given out to the group. Instead, it is given out to the company paying the LPA members for their participation. So far the money has gone to the LPA, as has the domain name that was bought for the group.
This is a pretty good reason to add Linux to the group. You can get some of its new software licenses by registering with LPA.com.

We have yet another list of LPA members who have joined the group, and we are trying to find their names so that we can add them to our list. This is still the first time we have heard of this activity so far.
We’re not sure where this is coming from, but we think that Linux Patent Group is a company that is trying to take advantage of the Linux community and do things that they should not be doing. The group is not a commercial entity, just a group of people working on patent related issues. We have not personally spoken with any of the people on the list, so we can’t confirm or deny that the group has any business practices.
